5 Ways to Find Joy in Your Life

We are so excited to have Jake Coyle, personal trainer and nutrition specialist on our blog this week to talk about his passion for health and wellness as well as his experience and motivation around living a healthy lifestyle. What we love about Jake is that his practice is all about finding a healthy balance with mind, body and spirit.

At my core, I believe that to create a massive physical transformation, you have to put your mindset first. I learned this firsthand watching my sister and friends grow up with negative mindsets around their bodies and exercise. Everything was about the physical which meant constantly trying new, degrading diet programs, overexercising and constant comparison to those around them. As a result, I was inspired to start Grindset where my goal has been to not only help people reach their fitness goals, but to help them become the best version of themselves: Mind, Body, And Soul.

As a part of my training, I created a framework that has helped hundreds of people bring more joy into their lives. Enjoy!

5 WAYS TO FIND JOY IN YOUR LIFE

1. Be Yourself. Love Yourself For Who You Are

Understand that you were created for a special purpose. Choose love in your relationship with yourself and others. Be honest with yourself and others. You are here to be yourself. You should apply effort to be the best version of yourself, not to be what others tell you to be.

Challenge: Ask yourself daily - Who am I? What is my purpose? By coming out and asking yourself these questions, we eventually get the answers. Try writing them out for a week and see how you feel.

2. Practice Gratitude
Be thankful for all things as your life unfolds, because life will unfold whether you are aware of it or not. When we acknowledge the good that we already have, we create the foundation for all abundance. Be thankful even for the negative things that might happen. Knowing and having awareness that each situation serves as a purpose for us to grow not only carries us through the struggle, but provides us with insight and progress.

Challenge: Before getting out of bed to start your day - lay there and give thanks for at least 5 things - repeat these 5 things before you go to bed. Give thanks with a passion, because you are blessed.

3. Eliminate Toxicity
Recognize where you are putting your energy. In order for you to make an "inside out" transformation (physically, mentally, emotionally), you must first be able to eliminate the people in your life that are deterring you from your goals.

Challenge: Detox from all social media for a few days. You must be aware of the people, places, and situations that are making you physically, spiritually, and emotionally sick. I have found that by "disconnecting" I am able to connect with those I love and cherish the relationships that truly matter.

4. Walk Through Fear
Don't run from your fears or try to distract yourself from them hoping they will go away. Instead, when fear shows up, be aware of it.

Challenge: Do something everyday that scares you. This can be as simple as calling a friend that you haven't spoken to in awhile, having a difficult conversation with your spouse, quitting that job that you are unhappy at, asking for a promotion, getting out of that toxic relationship. or finally jumping out of that airplane!

5. Find solitude
Silence and solitude allow our soul the time it needs to become balanced from everyday stressors. Internal energy and balance will change all outside circumstances. It strengthens our relationship with ourselves, which in turn, helps strengthen our relationship with others.

Challenge: Find at least fifteen minutes a day for solitude. This can be any alone time of your choice. Go on a drive and listen to your favorite music. Take a bath. Listen to a guided meditation. Look at the stars. Read a book. Do whatever makes you feel good and recharged.
