Sleep, smoothie, salad, work, exercise, repeat . . . or something like that. The monotonous cycle of health that often times gets us stuck in a wellness rut. While eating healthily and taking care of our bodies takes some work and planning, it shouldn't be devoid of pleasure (remember that saying about how you should relish the journey rather than long for the destination?).
In our eyes, health and fun should go hand-in-hand, so here are some tips to help you take your wellness routine from drab to fab!
1. Get Out of Your Cardio Funk
Spiritless hours spent slogging along on the treadmill or elliptical machine are enough to make you never want to step inside a gym again. Luckily, boutique fitness studios and gyms have really stepped up their class game and give you a wide variety of fun and invigorating ways to get your heart pumping! Our favorite switch-up? A sweaty AF dance class with loud music, dimmed lights and maybe a strobe light or two thrown in. It's different, it's outside your comfort zone, and it doubles as training for your next wild night out!
2. Spice up Your Outfit
You're putting a lot of time and energy into your health and wellness, so why not reward yourself? A sexy sports bra or new pair of leggings can give you that extra push you need to get out of bed in the morning and feel extra fly when you show up for class. Guaranteed you jump higher, kick harder and run faster when you're dressed confidently like a badass.
3. Set an Exciting Push Goal
Don't get caught up in the numbers game. The number on the scale can be so deceiving, especially if you are getting stronger and gaining muscle. Instead, set exciting goals that motivate you to push yourself and get after it. Try to beat your best mile time, train for an event like a triathlon or 1/2 marathon or shoot to make it to 3 yoga classes per week instead of 2.
4. Be a Glow-Getter
In this always on-the-go world that we live in, wellness and self care are finally taking center stage in more people's lives. As a result, there are a lot of new alternative therapies popping up to help us glow and replenish after all of our hard work. Try float therapy to give your mind some time and space to think and relax. Visit an infrared sauna to help stimulate your metabolism and promote detoxification, or book a healing crystal massage to sooth sore muscles, balance your energy and reward yourself for your hard work. Worst case, you don't like it. But even then, it probably beats another day on the elliptical!
5. Hang With Your #SquadGoals
Working out solo can be great alone time but sometimes a workout with your crew is exactly what you need to get going. Wrangle up your girls on a Friday night for an invigorating yoga class or even a small group personal training session. Knowing that your friends have committed to being there makes it nearly impossible to come up with an excuse to not show up. Plus, bonding with your besties over a sweat sesh means an extra endorphin high and plenty of time to chat and catch up.
6. Sex Up Your Food
You should be eating foods that you want to devour! If you're feeling bored or uninspired by what's on your plate try upping your recipe game. There are plenty of ways to eat healthy, fresh food that also tastes bomb. Also, instead of just throwing your salad into a bowl and downing it while you stand in your kitchen, make it look gorgeous! Take the time to assemble all of the ingredients on a beautiful plate, think about how the colors work together and artfully drizzle the dressing across the top. Pour a kombucha or sparkling water into a wine glass (oh you fancy, huh), light a few candles and enjoy your meal seated at the table. It makes the experience that much more enjoyable.
Despite what many people think, a fit life focused on healthy eating and self care doesn't have to be mundane. There are so many ways to amp up your workout routines, liven up your meals, and make healthy fun! Plus, what's the point of living a healthy, wellness based life if there's no spark?
